What RBI confirmed

RBI announced directions for The Tiruvalla Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd., Tiruvalla, Pathanamthitta, on 8 October 2026. From the close of business that day, granting or renewing loans requires prior written RBI approval, subject to the notified exceptions.

The directions also restrict deposits, withdrawals and payments. RBI says they apply for six months, subject to review, and do not themselves cancel the banking licence.

In a separate announcement on 8 October 2026, RBI issued directions for Sri Mahatma Basaveshwar Co-operative Bank Ltd., Afzalpur. From that day’s close of business, new loans and renewals require prior written RBI approval, subject to notified exceptions. The directions also restrict deposits, withdrawals and payments; they run for six months, subject to review, and do not themselves cancel the banking licence.

This is a different bank from Tiruvalla Urban Co-operative Bank. Customers should confirm their own bank’s directions and account instructions; the preparation questions below can help organise that enquiry.

If you have a loan or renewal pending

Ask the bank for a written account-specific update before planning a purchase, renewal or further drawdown. The practical checklist below is general preparation advice; it does not establish which transactions the bank will approve.

  • Is my proposed disbursement or renewal permitted under the current directions?
  • Does my facility require an approval, and has it been obtained?
  • Which repayment channel should I use, and how will I receive an acknowledgement?
  • Can you provide my current outstanding balance and payment schedule?
  • Where can I inspect the directions and subsequent account notices?

Existing repayments: keep a clear record

Do not treat this announcement as permission to stop paying an EMI or as a loan waiver. Request written repayment instructions from the bank if your usual payment method is affected.

Keep your sanction letter, loan agreement, latest statement, repayment receipts and correspondence together. If a payment fails, record the date, amount and bank response, and seek clarification promptly.

RBI permits setting off loans against deposits only subject to the directions’ conditions. Do not assume your deposit automatically clears your loan; ask the bank to confirm eligibility and the resulting balances in writing.

Planning a separate borrowing application

Before approaching another lender, set out the amount needed, purpose, existing commitments and a repayment budget. Obtain a written offer and compare costs, conditions and documentation rather than relying on an advertised rate.

For a property purchase, review our home-loan eligibility and property-check guide. For a facility secured against existing property, see loan-against-property assistance.

Use the EMI calculator with a prospective lender’s actual quoted terms. Its results are estimates, not an approval or a promise that replacement borrowing will be available.

Who should read this update?

This report focuses on Tiruvalla Urban Co-operative Bank and includes a separately labelled same-day update for Sri Mahatma Basaveshwar Co-operative Bank, Afzalpur. It should not be read as a restriction imposed on every bank or as a change to all Indian loan products.

Check the full bank name on your documents before acting, particularly where institutions have similar names. Existing customers should direct account questions to their own bank.

Common borrower questions

Is the bank’s licence cancelled?
RBI explicitly says these directions should not themselves be interpreted as licence cancellation.

Does the announcement guarantee a new loan elsewhere?
No. A separate lender will assess an application under its own policy. Do not make financial commitments on an assumed approval.

Can I change my repayment arrangement myself?
Seek written instructions for your account before changing payment arrangements. This article does not determine a borrower’s contractual rights or account-specific permissions.

Keep the next step specific

Start by asking for the status of your facility, the permitted payment route and the next action required from you. General borrowing preparation is available in our loan guides.

Quick Disburse is a loan facilitator, not a lender. Eligibility, pricing, approval and disbursement depend on the lender. Quick Disburse does not speak for the bank or guarantee replacement funding.
