What did RBI announce on 9 October?

RBI announced cancellation of the Certificates of Registration of 13 NBFCs in one notice. A separate notice records 10 registration surrenders. The cancellation orders underlying these announcements were issued during September 2026; 9 October is the announcement date, not a single effective date for every company.

The surrendered registrations fall into different categories: six exits from non-banking financial business, one company meeting the criteria for an unregistered Core Investment Company, one meeting the criteria for an unregistered Type I NBFC, and two entities that ceased to exist through the restructuring or closure category described by RBI.

These categories should not be collapsed into a claim that 23 lenders were found fraudulent or insolvent. The notices do not establish that conclusion.

Which 13 companies are in the cancellation notice?

Nakodar Finance Private Limited; Ajitnath Steels Pvt Ltd (MCA: Augment Finvest Private Limited); Astrol Dealcom Pvt Ltd; Bhagyashri Trading Pvt Ltd; Booh Finance Company Pvt Ltd; Britex Financial Services Pvt. Ltd.; Sajili Vinimay Pvt. Ltd.; Bhumika Fiscal Services Private Limited; Blue Mount Exports Pvt Ltd.; Delta Capital Market Ltd.; Rajesh Fiscal Services Private Limited (MCA: Rajesh Fiscal Services Pvt. Ltd.); Sarla Finance Pvt. Ltd.; Shreyans Vyapaar (P) Ltd (MCA: SHREYANS VYAPAAR PRIVATE LIMITED).

The orders for this group are dated between 7 and 21 September 2026. RBI states that these companies may no longer conduct the non-banking financial institution business covered by the cancellation.

Compare the exact legal name on your agreement with the company name, registered address and registration details in the official notice. A similar trading name, app name or spelling is not sufficient to identify your lender.

What should an existing borrower check?

1. Identify the creditor. Locate your signed agreement, sanction letter and latest statement. Record the lender’s legal name and loan account number privately. An app, broker or collection agency may have a different name from the creditor.

2. Verify the servicing contact. Use the contact route in your agreement or previously verified statements. Ask who currently services the account, where payments must go and whether any formal transfer has occurred. Obtain the answer in writing.

3. Treat changed payment instructions carefully. Independently confirm new bank details or a new collection contact before acting. Do not rely only on an unsolicited WhatsApp message, payment link or caller. Never share an OTP, password or remote-access permission.

4. Keep a repayment trail. Retain statements, receipts, correspondence and complaint acknowledgements. If the account is being transferred or closed, ask for the outstanding balance, applicable charges and confirmation of how credit reporting will be handled.

5. Escalate a specific discrepancy. Explain the disputed instruction or entry to the verified grievance contact and ask for a written response. The correct further complaint route depends on the entity and issue; do not assume every former NBFC remains covered by the same mechanism.

Does cancellation erase the loan or its credit history?

These notices do not announce a loan waiver. Do not assume that a registration change cancels your contractual repayment obligation. If an instruction is unclear or disputed, verify the lawful servicing route rather than treating a news headline as permission to stop paying.

RBI’s separate credit-reporting circular dated 10 October 2024 addresses institutions after licence or registration cancellation. It requires continued reporting for borrowers onboarded and reported before cancellation, until the loan lifecycle is completed or the institution is wound up, whichever occurs earlier. This is an existing framework, not a new rule announced today.

A registration cancellation therefore does not, by itself, mean that your account history disappears. Review your credit report and raise any incorrect balance or repayment entry through the appropriate lender and credit-information dispute channels.

Considering a fresh personal or business loan?

Start by checking the identity of the lender offering the loan. Read the written terms and compare the amount received, repayment schedule and applicable costs before accepting. This news does not create a new entitlement to a loan, a special interest rate or guaranteed approval.
